Taylor Made Tutorials...Simple Anniversary Card

Sunday is here again (the weekends go way too quickly!), but it's okay because I have something to share with you to keep you busy and not thinking about Monday that little bit longer!

I am the absolute worst at remembering anniversaries and I had this in mind when I was thinking about what design to do for this week's tutorial. This card is so quick and easy to make that it may just come in handy!

What you'll need:
  • Plain white card (13.5x13.5cm)
  • Red card stock
  • White card stock
  • Vellum
  • Anniversary sentiment stamp
Step 1:
Firstly you'll need to cut a 13x13cm piece of red card stock. Stick this to the front of the card. You'll then need a slightly smaller (12.5x12.5cm) piece of white card stock. Die cut a heart out of the middle of the white card, you want to line it up so that it is slightly above centre in order to leave space for the sentiment stamp.

Step 2:
Next take a piece of vellum that is large enough to cover the heart. I used the Card-io Majestix Branching Out Stamps to create the design on the vellum (I know, yawn, get some new stamps Hev...But they're just so good!). Heat emboss clear ink with holographic sparkle embossing powder. This can then be stuck to the back of the white card, making sure that you cover the whole heart. You can then stick the white card onto the red.

Step 3:
For the final step you just need to bling it up a bit! I added some liquid pearl to the vellum just to make it stand out a little bit some. I also added a silver glitter glue border around the edge of the card. And last but not least I added stamped a Happy Anniversary sentient, which I then heat embossed in clear ink.

This design can be really easily adapted if you don't have the right colour card stock and if you don't have vellum then no problem you can just heat emboss straight onto the base card.

Hope you enjoyed today's tutorial, keep an eye out for next week's!

Taylor Made Tutorials...Twisted Easel Card

Hello again!

Guess what?...Sunday is now officially tutorial day and this one is brill (even if I do say so myself)!

I've been pretty busy this weekend trying out some new techniques, I happened to stumble across a template for a twisted easel card on Pinterest and just had to give it a go!

First things first...What will you need?
1. 5"x10" kraft card
2. 2x 5"x5" coloured card stock (I used dark purple, but feel free to use whatever you prefer)
3. 3x large punched butterflies
4. 9x smaller punched butterflies

Step 1.
This is the basic template that I used, you cut down the block lines and score down the dashed ones.

Which should leave you with something that looks like this...

Step 2
Next you want to start adding colour to your base. I chose purple card stock, but feel free to use whatever colour you like. First you need to cut a 5"x5" of your chosen colour, which you then need to glue to what will be the base of the card (the bit that hasn't been scored)

Step 3
Here we are starting to build up the design, You need to cut another 5"x5" of card stock, I chose to use a slightly lighter shade of purple, but once again you can use whatever colour you prefer, You then need to cut this in half diagonally so that it fits over what will be the front of the card. I stamped a vine design onto my card in white ink using Card-io Majestix Branching Out Stamps (for those of you familiar with my designs you will notice that I use these stamps a lot because they look amazing and I love them!), this has then been heat embossed with clear powder to give it a nice glossy finish.

Step 4
Now comes the really fun bit, you need to start building up the design on the front. I chose to use butterflies. I started by punching out 3 large butterflies, I only have a really small butterfly punch, so I folded some card in half and used my larger heart punches to create the butterflies (super handy tip if like me you can't afford to keep buying punches).

I wanted to add height to the design, so I glued the butterflies along the fold of the card.

Step 5
Now time to add a greeting, this needs to be placed on the base of the card. It is also going to hold the front of the card in place when it is stood up, so needs to be slightly raised. I went for a happy birthday sentiment stamp, which I heat embossed with holographic sparkle powder. I used 3D foam pads to raise it up off the base of the card. To finish off I embellished with some white opal liquid pearl and some pink gems.

Pretty simple all in all!

As always we'd really appreciate your feedback so please leave us a comment!

New tutorials coming your way every Sunday, so keep an eye out!

Boxing Clever!

Hi everyone!

So we're well into January now and with the New Year it's time to try something new!

I've long been meaning to have a go at making an exploding box card. There are two types of box card - the type that have one, two or three layers which open out flat and fold up to make a box with a cute little lid. The type I prefer, and have had a go at here, fold flat to fit in an ordinary envelope.

There are loads of examples on Pinterest and you can also find different size templates. I have used a piece of card 81/2" x 5" and each box 'wall' is 2" wide, the extra 1/2" being the tab to glue it together. This is my template.

Once you have cut out and folded your piece of card it should look like this:

I used white card and then covered the box 'walls' with embossed or patterned paper for my designs and then embellished accordingly. You could use a piece of coloured card and then just embellish the sections. Make sure you embellish all the outer sides (except the back of the tall section) and the inside back tall section before sticking the box together using the tab. Next cut the middle 'pop-up' supports - that's the separate bit on the template! Fold the end pieces different ways so that they form a sort of zig-zag. Stick them into the card so that they are both facing the same way and will fold flat when the card is folded flat. You should find that it folds naturally to the right as shown in my photo.

Here is my completed card:

I used co-ordinating papers from the Trimcraft Floral Fancy 6" x 6" paper pad. 6" x 6" papers work really well for this size card - you can cover and embellish using 2 or 3 papers. I used a vine die to add height to my card and stuck flowers to it but you can add a couple of vertical card supports or use larger die cut shapes and stick smaller ones to them. Cut a piece of co-ordinating plain paper 2" x 5" to fit the back of the tall section, Add your greeting before sticking to the back.  This size card fits into a 5" x 7" envelope providing you don't make the embellishment too tall!

Here are a couple of other designs I made:

An 18th card for a friends daughter, I used my nesting star dies for this one and a star burst die to add height. I cut larger stars and stuck smaller ones to the points.

This was my first box card, I used a fancy heart die for the silver hearts, a large scallop heart punch for the white hearts as supports for medium punched sparkly hearts.

Exploding box cards are now my favourite cards to make so I think quite a few people will be receiving these for special occasions this year!

Back soon with some more fabulous makes!

Back To Reality...

Hello everyone,

Back to reality last week unfortunately, I think I must have hit snooze 4 times on Tuesday morning before I finally dragged myself out of bed. But as you can tell I did make it through the day and thanks to my fab new slow cooker dinner was already done by the time I got home, which meant I had a bit of spare time to try out some of my other Xmas gifts.

I wanted to make some thank you notecards to send out to family and friends to say thanks for all of my lovely Christmas presents. I tried out a couple of designs before I settled on this one.

I'm also really happy with the pack of sentiments stamps that I got with this month's copy of Card Making and Papercraft magazine. They stamp very clearly and there is one in the pack for pretty much every occasion. Probably the best freebie I've ever got!

What you'll need;

  • Sizzix big shot die machine
  • Sweet Dixie Mini Die: Delicate Butterfly
  • SC Designs sincere sentiments stamps
  • Black ink pad
  • White opal liquid pearl
